Project Name: Zeal
Description:
Nearly half of all high school students in Kansas City do not graduate. In 2008, the KC School District reported a 40% dropout rate. According to the national average, Kansas City is ranked 26th among the nation's top 50 schools with a dropout crisis based on data from the last 10 years. Most students note a lack of connection to school, boredom, and personal challenges that contribute to their decision to drop out. The program I have created makes students aware of the importance of staying in school and provides them with the tools and resources to succeed in high school and beyond. Zeal engages students in blogging in order to keep their interest in the program and provide them with a space where they can seek support from peers and teachers.
