Visual Language--> Exhibiting Signification

My object is an antique Silvertone radio.

This exhibit will most likely interest an older generation of people: those who were living or growing up between 1915 and 1975. The Silvertone radio was introduced at Sears department stores in the early 1920s. The radio was present during a time period when people enjoyed more of the simple things in life such as going home in the evening and listening to the radio while reading the paper or eating dinner. This is something that rarely happens in our world today. People may have memories of conversations they had with their children or friends about something that was on the radio. There may be a particular event in history which the person first heard about over the radio. Since the television was not widely used, the radio was a source for news as well as entertainment. Like the television today, the radio was a way of bringing families together.
